water injection

Hello, has anyone experimented with this on their turbo motors to augment lowering temperature charges? Does the system work?thanks for any comments...regards Jerry

I have not tried this myself but, i'm a saab owner(turbo) which is modified. On the performance saab boards some engines are reaching 300hp, all of them run water inj. and swear by it. They either make the system themselves or they buy a kit from a co. called aquamist. There is also a co that makes a system that mists the intercooler. They are called Seine, and their test car on the web site is a porsche.

Yeah I've used it before. You can use it two ways: 1. Spray it on the intercooler or 2. injected it into the motor. Both ways work relatively well.

Injecting it into the motor works a little better than a mere spray-However, if you injected it into the motor, you will need to readjust the boost pressure, as you will lose about 1.5 psi.

There is a guy on the 914 rennlist that put a Tubo on his 914.
He is using a Water/Alcohol mix that is injected into the engine.

You can search there for additional infornmation.....

tobluforu,
Thanks for the mention. The MPC system I put together can provide mist to lower external IC air. MPC can also function as a water injection system with a boost pressure switch and the correct nozzles (I'm working on the nozzles right now) or using the ERL nozzle(s).

Boost level shouldn't be affected as this is a function of the turbocharger/supercharger. In fact, with lower exhaust gas temps. (normally 1400ºF) and intake charge temperatures (up to 100ºF reduction), one can safely increase the boost pressure and move the detonation threshold upward (careful with the boost pressures). There are some aftermarket devices that supply extra fuel to control detonation, but this wastes fuel, messes up the correct air/fuel mixture for max. power and can dilute the oil/wash oil off the cylinder walls. Better to use the correct air/fuel mixture and a more efficient intercooler augmented by external or internal water injection cooling. The pcar shown on the website uses one branch system on the IC; another to cool brake duct air. Another pcar customer also uses branch circuits; one to spray the IC, the other to spray the cylinder heads, He reports a 45ºF reduction in cylinder head temp.

There's much discussion on the subject on water spray and injection (not Porsche) in this Yahoo discussion group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DSM_water_injection

Sorry if I got carried away,
