I'd recommend no bigger than 18s in most situations. It's only the corner case where you need to run the widest possible rear street tire where 19s make any sense, and that's going to be very rare. |
Pete
Do you drive backroads? Is the suspension mainly for smooth roads, or does it work well on some bumpier surfaces too? Thank you |

Thanks for the explanation Pete,
Being soft actually will help the car on backroads, and pushing the car to near 10/10s would be really irresponsible on backroads. But it sounds like it actually is an exciting proposition on our backroads. With the power it puts you can pass when needed, without exposing yourself to risk, and the softer setup will enable 7/10s storming along for great pleasure. Would love to see you sometime in the Santa Cruz mountains, for fun drive: Hwy 9, Pescadero and Hwy 84 backside, Bear Creek Rd, Stage Rd, Skyline from 92 to 9, Butano Park, Jamison Creek Rd, Pine Flats, Empire Grade, Boony Doon Rd, Page Mill Rd backside and front side too, Alpine Rd off Page Mill on backside, Hope this gives you some ideas, and inspires you to join. |
That AX video makes me smile every time I watch it.

Such a great car. You guys executed it beautifully!
Maybe I missed it but what brand/model wheels are those 17's? They look perfect on your car! |
Where is the drool emoticon when you need it.
That car is awesome. I need one just like it. |

Crushed it with this one...

hi. late to the game on this one. wondering about how much room there was in the engine bay. i'm looking more at swapping a boxster engine with a modified 5-speed (so, presumably, a shorter transmission than yours). was it necessary to cut the firewall? to move the suspension back? or was this done to obtain optimal weight distribution? thanks.
|
Cutting will probably depend on the exact length of your gearbox. The 6 speed is long enough that it requires it, the G50 5 speed is long enough to require some modification, the 915 is fine.
Otherwise if we hadn't done the mods for weight distribution (motor and suspension relocation) no cutting would have been required other than for the water lines. The Boxster engine/ trans is quite a different beast, so you won't necessarily be able to extrapolate from my experience. |
Please someone go and make a long vid of this thing…….like a proper one.
|
Video? That would be cool.
Petevb: If you decide to do a special video, check out the work of Roth Rind Productions... they have made a few videos about the Spec 911 and the local PRC racing scene. You might find some on youtube and Vimeo. I believe Roth Rind were engaged by JWE and/or some of the Spec 911 racers whom you may know. |
Thanks guys, I'll give that some thought...
