Installing a 3.2 in an older car
I am working on a '74 911 and have an '86 3.2 engine and transaxle that I am going to install.
I know that a lot of you have done this. Do any of you have detailed pictures of your engine compartment wiring and fuel plumbing before you installed the engine? If so, please share your know how on this conversion. |

Hi
I am 99% through the same project. 3.2 into a 74 shell. The above post by IROC is all you need. I also added a relay to the fuel pump just for added safety on the DME relay. Great feeling when it fires into life!! My issue now is the battery not charging, and i have a back feed from pin 2 red wire ( 14 pin plug ) to alternator that is keeping the idle control valve powered up when ignition is off. scratching my head at moment but it will be fine soon i am sure. The people on this forum are awesome and very helpful. Regards Alex ps: if you have specific questions about it just pm me Il see what I can do to help chances are you will be fine tho! |
Hello again:
From 77 thru 83???? the 911 had two fuel pumps?? Does the 74 only have one?, and it is located on the right side right near the torque tube? |

There is a volume and pressure difference between CIS and Motronic fuel pumps.

I opted to change to a 3.2 pump on the front cross member. I have read that the standard set up is fine but I am not so sure. It won't cost you anything to try it out with the standard set up. Just keep in mind that you may have to update this area if it doesn't work well.
Also remember to check for full throttle when the engine is in and all the linkages are on, This is a problem that some have and it can be a big difference in performance. |
You want to take the lock nut off the accelerator to the engine console at the console because you cannot adjust the accelerator with the lock nut in the car. With the nut off you can bend the linkage at the trans to get it off and tighten or loosen as needed by turning at the trans.
