exterior door handle troubles
Did a search and looking to see what may need to be replaced before disassembly, my door trigger has no resistance (spring?) and will not actuate door cam, the door cam turns up and down but will not stay in the locked position, the door is now ajar and will not close, I have the door panel off but do not want to proceed any further until I get feed back from someone of experience.
Is it possible it may be as simple as a rod disengaged from the handle to the cam Assembly or should there still be some sort of spring resistance to the door handle trigger, broken pivot? spring fell out, just need a direction before I physically remove handle, (a little apprehensive) thanks for any guidance, JohnnyO |

Year and model?
The trigger spring is part of the door handle assembly. You'll need to remove the handle to inspect it. The handle is held in place by 2 small nuts on the inside of the door. while you're in there, watch the action of the pin against the latch plate when you squeeze the trigger to see if anything looks obviously wrong. |

And look in the bottom of the door to see if you can find the lost spring.

Update, I sprayed the hell out of the backside of the door handle from inside the door panel access, also sprayed as best I could from outside where the trigger enters the handle and worked the trigger back and forth while releasing the action from the inside door trigger, got it to where i again have tension on the exterior trigger and the door now opens and closes using the exterior trigger, hopefully all the spraying loosens up the gung build up that was most likely contibuting to the trigger sticking,
I realize this is only a temp fix and that the handle should come off and be cleaned and lubed thoroughly, but i had a hell of a time trying to access the nut by the lock cylinder from inside the door panel, even trying the access hole behind the tape there was an obstucting piece of metal that would not allow straight access to the nut, if it presents future problems i will then seek out a friend with better tools to assist me. thanks again for the help, JohnnyO |

I use a 1/4 ratchet with 6 inch + 3 inch extension, wobbly connector and of course the 8mm socket. Go in from the large opening and get it. Sometimes the entire stud will come with the nut...not to worry it's threaded on both ends and goes right back into the door handle. Sounds like you are good for now, good job.

Your all guuked up. Pull the latch assembly out and clean it with brake cleaner. Then re grease. You've done the hard part. You took off the door panel. When you get it out you'll see the grease has collected dirt over time the combo has filled all the tolerances. So it won't move.
About a 3 beer job. Turn on the music and take your time. It will be let new when your done.

Here's an old write-up that might help. My car is a '73, but I think the door handles are the same.
Good Luck Joe Door Handle Assembly
