Does anyone have a laptop mounted or a mount for their 911?

Hi all,
I'll be going on a long road trip from the east coast to the west in about a month. I currently have a GPS system set up with my laptop, but it's a real pain in the ass to have to look at the screen with the laptop sitting on the passenger seat. I've done searches on google, but I can't see the point of spending $200 on a few pieces of metal...

suggestions? ideas? Thanks!

I don't have one set-up but I have used a laptop on a roadtrip. I would get a camera tri-pod and put it on the passenger seat floor and just attach it to your laptop with some hefty-velcro. I know it's a simple idea but it should work with no problem.

I would strap the laptop to the seat. Just don't let any Pcar drivers know you are doing this - it's worse than a cupholder....

Not sure of the cost, but many police cars have laptops mounted for easy viewing/typing while driving. You might check a Police uniform/supply outfit. Or Panasonic makes many of the laptops they use (The tufbook); or Motorola.....I went to a Garmin V for about $300 (e-bay) for my motorcycle - It's very compact....Good luck

thanks guys...

I searched for the ones that cops use, and they start from $250. I don't really want to spend more $$ on a PDA GPS, as 1) I already have a PDA (Sony Clie, not compatible with any GPS system out there) and 2) the laptop has a much bigger screen.

Of course, stability is also an issue, as it's kinda hard to hold the laptop in place while I'm trying to shift during a turn, or something like that.

Maybe, but I get cross-eyed just looking at the picture!

Go to Ram Mount's web page. They have all sorts of innovative mounting devices. Click HERE for the link to their brochure on vehicle mounting systems.

Good luck!

thanks scott! It doesn't look too bad, and it's $100 cheaper than others. I'll do some research on their website.

I was planning on reusing a goose neck mount that I pulled from my 3000GT for my iPod.

The base is triangular and only 2-3 inches on its longest side.

I can't seem to find a spot anywhere in the floor area to mount something even that small where it does not interfere with something.

Take a look at this site.

Depending on the output options available from your laptop or GPS you should be able to find something.

http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_you_need/special/index.html#1

Right at the top is a 7 inch screen with VGA for your laptop.

Half way down are sun visors w/built in screens, RCA input only but they have built in TV tuners.

I use an integrated laptop/PDA/GPS system everyday in my vehicle as part of work. I also link up to satellite imagery (geotif.) and overlay my electronic maps. I have tried many commercial and home made sysems and can assure you the RAM MOUNT stuff is the best.

Out of interest, my brother is a choper pilot and mounts his PDA on his thigh with a strap. His GPS is plugged in (but mounted elsewhere). He only needs to look down at his thigh to get the info he needs.

I'm in sales and use my device everyday.

SWWS Laptop Mount is new to the marketplace.

Laptop computers are necessities in business, especially for those whose work takes them by car between customer and division locations. Between visits, a user must often use the laptop to prepare for an upcoming visit or to process the results of a just concluded one. In addition, the user may need to communicate with his home location to check and respond to messages received in his absence. When seeking to use a laptop in a car, the user encounters serious difficulties. Most importantly, there is the need to present the laptop keyboard at a comfortable and ergonomically desirable angle and position and the need to present the display in such a manner as not to lead to vision or muscle strain. What is Ergonomics? Ergonomics comes from the Greek words “ergos” meaning work and “nomos” meaning natural law. Ergonomics is essentially fitting the task to the worker and the product to the user. The benefits of ergonomics include improved comfort and productivity as well as reduced injuries and illnesses. Ergonomics is important in offices, industrial areas, and most important, the use of a laptop in a parked automobile!
A healthier way to get the job done.

Here is a less permanent but no less costly option.

Mobile Office Car Desk Work Stations. Shop, Find and Buy at ComfortChannel.com.

Used to use one of these all the time. Top is rubber and makes a laptop pretty damn stable. You use the cars seatbelt to secure it to the seat.
