Compression & Leak Down tests on cold engine. . .

Hi -

Just a quick question. . . is doing compression & leak down tests on a cold engine a complete waste of time? If an engine is not installed in a car and unable to be started to warm up, what is the best way to determine it's condition?

Thanks,
Tom

you can do it and you may get a decent result, but it would likely be better if everything was oiled and expanded from heat.
