TX Hill Country New Year's Fun Run 2010

Just like many of the other areas around the Southern US we have an annual Austin New Year's Fun Run. To get a few more cars this year we held it on Jan. 2, and thus it was not a Hangover Rally.

We started with almost 14 cars. The newest was 1974. This was not by design, just the nature of who was available on this particular day. We were also joined by a member of the local Alfa club! Thanks for coming out to support our drive. We could use a bit more Italian style.

The route left SW Austin heading W and then looped up to the North. We stopped for nourishment in Burnet, TX. I was route master and we definitely found some new roads to add to the "must drive" list.

The weather topped near 60 and was perfect for top down driving after feeling too enclosed by the 30 deg requirements for a top. Here are a few pics to support the smiles. We had empty roads and lots of curves. Lots of segments that took concentration to keep your foot in it.

I had lots of fun. Hope to see more of you next year.

I live in Austin and would have loved to been a part of that, just had no idea it was even going on. What roads or exact area were you guys driving? I've been looking for some nice roads around here and the only thing I've found so far is Lime Creek Road, the one that heads out to Volente Beach. But most of the time it's filled with a bunch of rice rocket motorcycles, or trucks going 30mph. The roads from your pictures look wonderful, I'd love to get a chance at them!

The drive was posted on the Regional forum, not the technical forum. Most of the local group is on our email list. Send me an email or PM through the board and I will add you to the distribution list.

I have lots of backroads that can be found on any map. I have many favorites and would be happy to share offline.

Jamie

Justin, you have email.

Mike, Missed you. We had another car from Houston. Come on up for the next one.

Ed, Thanks, I noticed you had a great drive in SoCal too. Gotta get as much seat time as possible here. There really are some great roads as long as you go searching. I have had my fair share of dead ends, dirt and creek crossings to cross some roads off the list.

Looks like a lot of fun! Wish I wouldn't have had to miss this, but I had kid duty that day! I've been wanting to connect with other classic 911 guys here in Austin! I recently got my '71 Targa that's wanting to play. Just rebuilt brakes, Swepco'd the tranny, Mobil 1 the motor.

Please put me on the email distribution list. My email is james@jsquarearch.com

Aaron, Let me know next time you get out this way. Sorry I missed meeting you last time through.

Scott, Good thing that picture was taken from a distance.

Bob, Glad you enjoyed the drive, especially enough to drive it back-to-back days. BTW, there are some great pictures there. It was too hard for me to get pictures of the group from the front. I tried but none came out.

James, you have mail.

Thanks again Jamie!

What agreat day of driving. I had a blast. Afterwards driving home I felt like I had to put the tiger back in the cage in the urban environment! Driving around town now oficially bites it for me.

Here are some shots at lunch and at the creek.

Mark, I felt the same way. The stretch from Cedar Park home made me want to turn around.

Steve, you will have to make the next one.

I am glad everyone had a good time.

Here are some more pictures from the run.

Kelley and I enjoyed meeting everyone. The route was brilliant, well worth the drive from Houston. Thanks Jamie!
