Am I the only one that has to have something to tinker with. I spent almost all the Christmas break looking for a new project to work on. I see plenty of cars and think I could fix that and restore that. So far the exact project has not landed so I am just looking and looking.
I want a narrow body long hood R clone and keep looking at my other SC thinking a couple of fenders and hood and it would be close save the wide rear end.

Any one else have to have something going on all the time or should I set up an appointment with the DR.?

im with ya there, i love projects i have strayed away from porsche a bit and now am getting ready to put a six in a vw van camper and then restore the interior.

My wife has strictly imposed a 3-car limit to prevent new projects... unless I sell one. What's the fun in that?

Yes, I always have projects and will probably always have one in one form or another.

as i was standing in my garage yesterday stripping the sound insulation out of the miata i recently picked up i got that old familiar feeling. you know the one where you're listening to the winter wind blowing against the garage door while you breath through a filter mask reaching around into the various crevices of an old(ish) car.....

i realized i had in part bought this car because my 911 is, at least temporarily, done. suspension is good, tires are bought, interior is done but for a nice aluminum race bucket, cosmetic stuff is good enough (for me), etc. turns out i just need to have something fresh to tinker with in the garage. i THOUGHT i had bought the car just to see what miatas are all about.

it is, IMO, a good thing. as i see it this provides a quality of life...a satisfaction if you will...that most guys just don't know how to obtain. most guys go to work, eat dinner, sleep and repeat. sure they get a football jersey and make a fuss on Sundays once in a while and MAYBE they hit a golf course quarterly to ***** about their lives....but that just isn't where it's at for me.

I just wish my wallet were bigger! Having completed a few projects, I get as much satisfaction from building as I do appreciating the finished product.

I couldn't agree more. My last project that took much of my time over the last 3 years was my house. The house was a mess, most wanted to knock it down. I have since redone every floor, ceiling, and wall in the house. Two weekends ago, I finished the last room...and suddenly a 911 project happens my way.

In the words of Ben Franklin, "an idle mind is the devils workshop".

Watching sports is fine, but there is nothing like the pride of taking a mess and creating something amazing. Don't you love the feeling of someone saying "nice car" and you knowing "yup, I did it myself".

Well I could not hold out much longer and found one with a good story, actually Bill found it and passed it on to me. I will write up another thread on where it will go.

i would much rather be elbow-deep in grease and grime than clean behind a steering wheel. yes i have a problem but i can admit it, and that is half the battle.

Yesterday, on the '66...
-in the morning, I watched McQueen's Le Mans on TMC to get in the Porsche state of mind
-washed it
-fixed broken coil mount
-checked/set timing
-tore around the neighborhood to warm up the oil and marveled at how, at 6500rpm, my sport muffler sounds like a 917 on TV
-oil/filter change & add 2 bottles of ZDDP
-removed sump cover to check for scary things in the screen (none!)
-valve adjust
-general engine bay clean up
-greased poly-bronze suspension bushings
-oiled carb linkage ball cups
-topped off washer fluid
-cleaned up right rear suspension where torn CV boot spewed grease all over
-re-aimed the Cibie Oscars and tore around the neighborhood with all the lights on

Today...
-hide in garage all day to avoid yard clean-up work...it's going to be in the 50's and sunny (yesterday was 60 and sunny!)
-clean & oil K&N's
-check Webers balance
-check brake pads
-flush out old brake fluid and put in some new Ate Super Blue
-grease up & install new CV's & half shafts
