Availability of RS rear bumper corners?

I've got a set of factory RS quarters that if I stitch them onto my 73T, I'd like to use correct RS steel bumper corners.

are these as rare as hen's teeth? general price? repros available? weld up your own?

what are my options? I'd prefer not to use a one-piece glass bumper. no rush on getting this done, probably a winter 2010 project.

on a separate note, what are your thoughts these days on "permanent" modifications to early cars?

Shaun, I have a pair of steel corners on my car that have been shaped to match the SC flares grafted to the fender. I'm pretty sure they're not factory - it appears a decent body guy has cut and grafted in metal to flare them out. I suspect this may be a cheaper option to "RS" priced parts...

thanks John, I may go in that direction. I was hoping to have the bumpers on to help line up the RS flares. I've definitely got time to sort it out. I should have a pic or two of that cover tomorrow.

Thanks Paul, I found from posting on Early S that you can get these for $565 each new from Porsche. so depending on what you have, we can go from there.

just went looking and couldn't find them. sorry Shaun. but as I am told, the factory parts are just the narrow fender parts cut and extended to match the flares. so if it is good enough for them, you should not feel bad doing something similar.

Thanks Paul. I have considered that as well. It's a down the road project so I've got time to either find the right pair or imiprove my metal skills to make my own.
