Question on 80's Carrera heat controls

Hi -

I'm looking at a car that has "auto-heat" (a dial between the seats), however the box the auto-heat dial is mounted on does not have the two defrost levers sticking out forward of it (to each side of the parking brake).

Is this correct for an 86, or is something missing?

Thanks,

Matt.

Yours is like mine. You have the total automatic heat system. The dial should read 1-9. The dial is connected to a servo the takes the place of the levers.

Here is a neat layout of all the HVAC controls:

Car is not mine, but I am considering it!

This is interesting. I've also seen images of the auto heat dial WITH the defrost levers. Maybe that was prior to the HVAC upgrade done in 1986 . . . .

Thanks!

If it has the levers then I believe the dial only goes from 1-3

My 89 Carrera has the two levers as well as the dial, which is good in a way that you can
adjust the heat levels for both sides of the car...

Still not 100% familiar with the controls as i don`t drive the car when it rains or during colder months but one thing for sure is the heating system in those cars works pretty well !
