Removing side view mirror for repair

I need to get the whole mirror off including wiring. I assume I have to remove the entire door panel? If so, what screws do I need to remove and which ones can stay ? What can I expect when I get the panel off- any thing I need to watch out for such as window falling down or shorting wires ect.?

I just took a pair off a 944, if it's the same. And the wiring from the mirrors went though the door jams, with no disconnects inside the doors. So I cut'em.
