Need to recurve my distributor-source?
Swapped my 2.7 for a ROW 3.0 (with 3.2 p/c), webers, S cams, etc. Air Cooled Classics, in Knoxville, did the rebuild - Great Guys excellent work! Car runs well, but we used the original distributor - plugged one line, and ran the other off the right carb. When I had the car in Germany last year (I'm in the military), my mechanic suggested that I either change out the distributor, or have it rebuilt to eliminate the vacuum line (we're not getting full advance). Unfortunately, I had to PCS back to the states before we did anything. Can anyone suggest someone that is capable of rebuilding/recurving the distributor for use with the Webers? There used to be several sources, but I've been running into dead-ends..."We don't do that anymore..." Any help would be appreciated.

Mike,
My feeling is that you can do the job yourself with lighter springs from a traditional 'Detroit' hotrod shop or online supplier like Jegs or Summit. If the springs alone don't do it, perhaps drilling and soldering on the weights, and maybe some filing on the weights or stops will be needed. For more details on the specs and advance curve of S/RS engine distributors, check the following thread, which includes a generic exploded diagram from a Bosch technical bulletin. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5432&highlight=distribu tor+lube |
Thanks Warren, I'll give it a shot.

Motor Meister (http://www.motormeister.com/) out of California advertises this service.
I have been told that the stock distributor from a '78 or '79 SC engine would be curved correctly for Webers, as is. Charlie |
Jerry Woods Enterprises can recurve it for you, if you don't feel like trying yourself.
