1979 SC - what is pump on left side of engine ?

Hello guys,

I have been shopping for a while for a 911 to replace the 1984 model I destroyed last summer in a car crash.

There is a very nice one, burgundy color, that I like in the Tulare area.

Can you please tell me what is the pump that is showing on the left side of the engine (looking forward), with a belt going to the center fan ? (It is showing in picture, adress below)

I know that on the right is the AC, which in my area I would take out. But I am unsure about the other pump.

Any comments please. Thanks.

hi,
Your link doesn't work for me, but the pump you are inquiring about is the air injection smog pump. Only found on 78 and 79 SC's, not on the later models. Most find their way into a box of extra parts in the garage relatively soon. ;)

If you remove the Air Pump you have to plug the holes in the cylinder heads.
It's not a big deal as it's been done many times before.

Search and I'm sure you'll find lots of information.

That is the Flux Capacitor. Without it, your engine will lose most of its power.

(I'm kidding, okay?)

mine was removed by the Previous Owner. He didnt remove the air injection plumbing at the cylinder and just crimped the metal line. ive since removed and installed the plugs. not a tough job at all.

do I need to pull the heat exchanger on the driver side to get the metal air lines off and out? Or can I dis-connect and wiggle it out from under there?
But first I will order the 914 plugs from pelican, of course.
