Upgrading a 3.0 SC to a 3.2 shortstroke ???? Any advice, feedback on this conversion
Hi All, Seriously thinking about upgrading my 78 3.0 SC to a shortstroke 3.2, I am really keen to hear any feedback, advice, results on this short stroke modification..thanks heaps ..:)

Would I do a SS 3.2 again? Yes, it's a noticeable improvement from a stock 3.0; more HP and fun plus a real learning experience. I'm no expert but have also decided on the 3.2SS. After doing LOTS of research I've decided on keeping the CIS injection (here comes the flogging) and using 964 cams, SSI exchangers, 2 in 2 out exhaust, twin plug ignition from Clewitt engineering, and finally 10.5:1 compression. I figure this should get me around 240HP. More if I use carbs or TBI with better cams, which are both beyond my budget for awhile... which is why I will keep the CIS. Besides, if everything is work as intended, it works great!
BTW, the higher compression costs $0. The twin plug setup will cost you around $1800 but will give you peace of mind and another 15 or so ponies and the best part is no more dizzy. Another added bonus is an easily tunable ignition. No more sending your dizzy in to be recurved and hope they got it right. |
This is a good formula: proven reliability and great bang for the buck. You can save a few hundred by using use 98mm pistons (they show up now and then) and regrind cams or used. Go with the large bore CIS and you won't give up too much.

Revs faster, pulls harder with more HP, sounds fantastic. What more could u ask in rebuilding a 3.0 motor for not that much more $$$??

We have a SS 3.2 built from an 82 3.0 in the spyder. Kevin Farrel at Injection Labs built this engine. 10.5, twin-plug crankfire (buy everything related to that from Clewett).
Twin-plugging not only saves your hiney with higher compression, it puts the flame at both sides of the piston dome - really cleans up the idle when you are running a more aggressive camshaft profile. It starts easily, runs with flawless reliabilty, no temperature related tantrums etc. Plus, a Cobra driver once told me, "Dayum...that little car's got a BIG set of nuts!" :D angela http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1263082707.jpg |
Makes a great engine. I did mine with a Carrera intake/heads based EFI, 964 cams, and SSI exhaust getting 229 RWHP. Of course, it really lights up with a turbo addition :D.
