Cool won $1000 raffle + need new tires

hi,

been needing new tires and won $1000 in a raffle last night.

looking for recommendations for a good general purpose tire. not a track tire, but something that can be safe at 120mph+.

currently have:
stock c2 wheels
front 205/55r16 89v m+s
rear 225/50r16 92v m+s BF Goodrich

i started callind around and a guy recommended z rating instead of v. good idea?

on CNBC now is more bad firestone press, maybe i could get a good deal on them?

any advice appreciated.

Why do you have to say more rude and spitfull stuff to me on the 944 board... why can't you just stop being such a pain in the ***.

I wonder how your peer's here on the 911 board feel about your inability to stop.

por2by wtf are you talking about? leave this area, you don't even have a 911. i kid around with a few people i know on the 944 board. this is none of your business. if you have a problem e-mail me. the 911 tech forum is not your personal message system.

now, guys, any good tire recommendations?

Man you have got to be kidding... Do you think that you can come into the 944 board, make comments towards me and then run back here as if you did nothing. And what's this about not having a 911 and thus not being able to be on this board... Do you have a 944, has anyone gotten on you about being in the 944 land and not having a 944.

this is what I am talking about... and no last moment edits will make your comment any less than what you orginally intended

Anyhoo, now that that is out of my system...
Briedgeston SO2's are pretty good. Yokohama AVS intermediates are pretty good as well...really good bang for the buck. Pirelli tires aren't all that fascinating until you get into the top of the line tires. They seem to be making more and more tires for the lower end. Granted, if P-Zero's are still around, they are pretty good tires.

Go to www.tirerack.com and search for performance tires...you can look at tires and see customer ratings of them. Also, they have their own market ratings, etc.

Paul

p0r2chby...
Call me stupid, but....

What does this post have to do with the 944 board?

Wayne?

Check out the tire rack site.
You can specify a tire size and speed rating and get a comparison of their performance ratings and price. You can also look at other customer's comments on the same tires that they purchased.

Daryl,

I've been doing a little tire research. I'm looking at tires for autox and drivers ed as well as everyday use. The tires I'm looking at are Bridgstone S02 pole positions, Bridgstone RE730 and Yohohama R032's. If you live in an area with a lot of rain, you might look at the s02's. I've heard they are really good in the rain. A friend also has Yokohama AVS sports that he likes a lot.
You can also check out the tire rack on line. They have customer comments on most tires so you can look at the specs on the tires and read what people like and don't like about the tire. Tire rack also lists tires by application so you can look at all "max" performance tires and compare. Kumo (sp?) has really good prices on tires tho I don't know their quality.

Good luck!

Don

Red face

uh...about the tires...

I definitely think you should get Z rated tires. You always want your tires to be rated at least a step higher than you really need. It just adds safety and performance. I went to one of the Skip Barber driving courses and they hammered that into us for a solid 45 minutes. You've got the cash, so do yourself a favor and get Zs...

any infection brought to this board is the direct result of Planters continued action towards me. If he were to stop, all would be better. Very simple don't you think.

Planter, yes, the "pirellis" have a good rep, also consider one of the "AVS" lines.

Maybe if you stopped with the flaming yourself then it would stop as well...hmm, an easier solution.

I have try'd that... It didn't work. The next approach was to bring it here so his peers could see this hoping that some peer pressure would have a better effect.

why do you complain about him then get on his cock and say "yes, the "pirellis" have a good rep, also consider one of the "AVS" lines"

planter DOES make some unnecessary comments (like me) but if you got a problem por2chby, then e-mail him. you complain about the boards being messed up and then you post more inciteful *****? damn. you are bored.

you guys shut up.

go for yoko AVS's or pirelli p9000.

YEAH BABY

I recommend the Yoks' AVS or better.
They are a very good tire and the tread genrally has a longer life than the pirelli(in my experience)
I would definately go with the Z rated tires especially if you are expecting to reach speeds of 120+
Pirelli's P-Zeros's are good, as are Bridgestones potenza s-o2's
and forget the bridgestone/firestone hype, I have never heard of these high end performance tires having any of the trouble that the SUV tires had.
By the way congrats on the raffle.
