Where's Clark Griswald? I'll bet he could make one with a hammer and a piece of coat-hanger.;)

i'm pretty sure i got the last batch from a cornwell truck. he didn't stock it, but he found some. i usually buy 10 at a time and provide them to whoever wants them. snapon is the only tool truck to stop here, but if i see another truck in the neighborhood, i'll see what i can do. the tool needs to be slightly modified to work well. this consists of snipping the rounded tip square, and filing it smooth, the lower 1/2 of the tip is squeezed out a bit to support the back of the 90° bend in the gauge, then tweeking the tips slightly so they grip the gauge snugly. a 5 minute job.

Something tells me that Island man is about to win the award (not to mention the satisfaction of instant product success).

I'm ready to place an order!!

I would be willing to bet that the minute one of these things is made, the owner of the patent will come out of the wood work.

Island man . . . I never saw the picture.

Give me some time in an FA-18 tactics simulator and I'll build one out of Titainium¹ for ya.

1 Titainium for the holder, The blades are best from marcesq's source. . .Ti doesn't slide so nicely.

john walker's workshop 01-14-2002 10:30 AM

ok island, here's the specs. you da man. build a jig and crank them out. the outer part of the tip is 5/16", not including the kink. .050 (thou) is about 3/64", (18ga). when the slider is moved to the end to lock the feeler blade in place, the flat tips must come together flush for a good grip.

Perfect John!

Good question Shawn. I don't suppose you have an FA-18 tactics simulator I could use? :D

So John, what do these go for when you can get them?

FA-18C 01-14-2002 01:26 PM

Look at that! Woohooo!! Its nice to see that by stirring a little mud you can get just about anything accomplished! Put me down for 4 of em when you make em...(like to look out for my firends). Oh and anytime you are in the Va Beach area, drop me a line and Ill tour ya around NAS Oceana and get you in not 1 but three different simulators including the tactics domes where we can link two together and go at it..., worlds most expensive and most fun video game. Oh yeah, I also offered a beer, will have to hit the O'club after.

Doug Zielke 01-14-2002 05:27 PM

Say, Glenn....are you going to sell these to the early, and 3.2 boys? If you do, be sure to price them accordingly.

I am going to try to build a few of these this week,I wonder if John can put a magnet to his and tell me if it sticks or not.It really isn't feasible to make these out of titanium (.050 sheet) Its really expensive and it doesn't need to be that strong.I think I will probably give samples to a few older car owners (pre SC) first.

muhhahahahahahahahaha

I'm waiting for Cornwell to send me a pic. of their tool. Asked them Friday by e-mail. If no reply tomorrow I'm calling them Wednesday.

<i>"The laser etching is just a P/N pay no attention to it."</i>

Probably designed to break off inside early motors. These SCWDP guys are really sneaky. -- Curt

Do I qualify?? Go Critter

john walker's workshop 01-15-2002 09:37 AM

yes, it's steel. i would have a sheet metal shop slice you off a bunch of 1/2" 18ga. strips. the edges would have to be smoothed and rounded before bending. the kink on each tip and the slider would be the only hard jobs to do. a male/female die in a vise could be made to bend the kinks. kind of like those eastwood co. panel notcher tools.
