OK I get it. You like pictures

I have loved the p-cars from my youth and I bought one finally.

Wrong paint and rusted pan. Rebuilt engine. Very clean, but not stock interior.

I have the car in Utah and I live in Africa.

Hope to be home in the Western States soon.

I will be swapping out the seats with stock ones and getting the pan replaced. Suggestions for the pan? I am thinking the Orange County area. Is there a good shop in the Salt Lake City area that somemone wants to recommend?

Now....... You all seem to like pictures so here they are.

AC work ? that engine is clean. good paint job with pan replacement could be pushing 5k plus. maybe you could go back to original color.

A/c

Yes the A/C works.

The original color is metalic blue. This has too much green in it. I just bought some stock seats and will be putting them in it. I think Tony is the guy to do the seats. Down in San Diego. Pan done by Einmalig?

that car would be worth every penny of a proper resto. If you have the $$$, I would pull the trigger.

You haven't stated exactly the year of the car, though it looks to be a 73--fugly bumperettes put it as a 73.5, but the MFI engine puts it as earlier.

I would go with H-4's or H-1's (if you got the $$) with chrome trim rings, and replace the bumperettes with 73 looking MFI which were the small, metal ones anodized black instead of chrome.

You have a very nice car there that doesn't look like an overwhelming project--a little here, a little there, and you're good to go.

Welcome, and enjoy your new lover (by the way, she'll never be satisfied...)

i thought all 73 had the big bumperettes per US regulation, early 73T carried over the yellow shroud MFI from 72, 73.5 introduced CIS.

What are your plans for the car? general budget? looks like a great base, you can go with aftermarket period correct seats or sport seats or basic Recaros as those tan ones are. I have excellent standard black bases, will have to see about backs to match.

I'm sure you're correct, Shaun. A bit of early morning confusion on my part.

The vin puts it in the low 400s, it has MFI and the seller who has some experience with P-cars tells me it is a pre CIS car. I actually would love to get rid of the nasty looking bumperettes. They look slapped on. So the yellow/orange collor on my engine is correct? Seemed rather odd to have orange on a Blue car.

The h-4s are a lens and not a whole lamp? I followed the link and it was not clear. What is so nice about the h-4s?

I will drop what needs to go into the car. As someone said she may become my second lover, but I am not so detail oriented that I have to have every single part correct. If I put 68 seats in a 73 that is not sacreledge is it?

Nice looking ride, Eric. Someone was cutting up a tub in the classifieds, might be worth doing a search and seeing if you can get a pan for her.

Welcome to the forum.

As per Shaun's statement, the fugly bumperettes were standard on U.S. cars but if you don't like the look, you could replace them with black metal ones and still be "correct" for a Euro car.

The yellow shroud is stock for MFI cars, but there does appear to be orange showing--never seen that but experts can chime in.

H-4's come in two forms--replacement sealed bulbs that replace what you have, and whole assemblies with separate bulb, reflector, cover lenses--and that is what I was referring to. The H-4 beam pattern is different due to the lens over the assembly, providing a better coverage on the road. Additionally, you can easily increase the wattage of the bulb without having to buy a whole new sealed beam. I believe the DOT approved sealed beam has a different pattern on the lens which is not as efficient. Finally, the total H-4 assembly gets away from the "sugar scoop" look and returns the car to the look of the earlier cars (pre-68) and Euro cars with a swept back lens cover that blends with the line of the car.

Sheet metal work is sheet metal work regardless of the make of the car. Find yourself a good "restoration" shop in the Salt Lake area. You can source the sheet metal parts for them with the help of Pelican if needed.

Good luck.

Hey,
I have a rough rule of thumb for resto shops:
The best resto shops are where there are 1) Lots of money, and/or 2) long cold winters(nothing else to do). SLC has both!
Enjoy

Here's H4 headlights... the ones I was referring to. I've got them on my car.

You can also get paintable headlight rings if you dont like the chrome.
