Fuel Tank undercoating color
Hello All,
Car is hibernating so I have a few projects that I am working on. The bottom of the fuel tank had a lot of surface rust so I removed all the rust and the rubberized undercoating with a scraper and wire brush down to the bare metal. I did not remove the tank from the car as the top of it is in very good shape. Next I used POR15 over the bare metal and then the final coat was flat black undercoating from a rattle can (Wurth brand). It looks great but I am now thinking that I should have used the same color as the top of the tank (grayish) and not black like the rest of the under-body. Repainting is easy as the car is on the hoist. What is correct? Thank you all in advance. |

I have never quite been able to get the answer to this question. People will tell you Wurth but though nice it is not a match for the original gray. Do a search here and on the
early911sregistry.org and you may find what I have not. Chris |

Here is my thread on the topic. I used the Wurth product but due to my body guy and I being detail nuts we painted over it with a custom mixed paint. If you are not quite so crazy the Wurth product is very close. At least in the Carrera the color you see is spot on correct.

Order Surflex in a Standard Color - In the comments section, you can just say: switch order to Porsche Gas Tank Gray.
You need to clean the gas tank well, sand lightly and apply the Surflex in several light coats. |
