Paint polishing/repair/care

Hey guys,

I just picked up my new '82 SC. It my first 911 and first sports car for that matter.

The paint is really in pretty good shape, a minor chip here or there, but not bad.

After looking through the forums and seeing the beautiful paint on your cars, I was looking for some advice on paint repair and care.

Here are some photos of the car, the lighting is not very good as I don't want to take it out of the garage until spring.

Thanks in advance!

~Max

Congrats on your new car!

- get a random orbit buffer - such as the Porter-Cable random orbit sander for ~~ $30 or something more expensive - as long as it is random orbit
- get a nice soft foam pad for it
- wash the car with a good car wash
- then use Meguair's Body Scrub (maroon bottle) on the random orbit foam pad
- follow with what Meguairs calls a polish (used to be in a black bottle)
- then use NXT wax

that's the best for a reasonable price

you will get a lot of advice on various "elixers" but always ask if they did side by side testing -- I have, and the Meguairs is as good as most things that are much more expensive.

Thank you for the advice!

As far as the minor scratches and paint chips, should I just polish them or is there something else I can do?

Thanks!
