901 transmission on a 1976 911

I have a question, can a 901 transmission be installed on a 1976 911?

Sell that 901 and buy a 915. By the time you get all the bits needed to adapt that 901 to a '76, you could have had a 915.

^this. I had one in my ‘75 targa. I love the old dog leg boxes and up to 180hp or so they are totally reliable. And lighter and tons more off the shelf cheap regearing options than a 915. I would put one in a middle again without hesitation.

But not an aluminum 901. That install would be a pain in the arse.

agree on the typ 911(often wrongly called a 901) - also: it has a better shift pattern and a nice, lighter feel to it

you will need a different shift tube

If interested I am selling a nice daily driver 915/44 five speed transaxle out of a 1976 911S for a friend. It shifts nicely up and down the 5 speed gear range and doesn't whine or make noise. It has a new nose cone oil seal installed and fresh SWEPCO oil and comes with a new clutch cable. Asking $2,000 plus shipping and paypal fees.

I have it listed for sale elsewhere on Pelican. Those interested click on the link below:

FS Porsche 911 Five Speed 915 Model Transaxle

Thanks in advance for your interest

Henry

FYI, if it spills during transit the fines are quite steep. Best to ship them dry.
