Identify my starter

Trying to identify my starter, is it the big horse power or not?

It's a Bosch with these markings: E 723, 001312100, 12v. On the back it says Remanfac CH 144.

Sorry Kent, could you take a picture of it and a close up of the s/n? We all spend too much time on the OT forum....

I cant tell in the picture but this is the way to tell
the small one has an allen bolt about 6 inches long that can clear the body of the starter when the starter in in the install position
The large one has a bell house stud from the engine because it takes a 10mm allen capnut. the long bolt of the early starter will not clear the body of the larger starter.

I cheated and googled the pn - found a bosch remanufactured parts catalog.
The Bosch part number takes the form 0 001 312 100, some places use periods or dashes instead of spaces between the number groups.
The catalog sez it's a replacement for a Porsche core starter for a '72-89 911/T of PN
911 604 101 00.

plug this 911-604-101 (drop last 2 0's) into pelican and up comes a starter - don't know hp tho'.

Now we"re getting somewhere. My car is a 72T although the engine was a 74 2.7L.

I would assume if that part number went all the way to the 80's it would be the 1.7 hp model.

Thank all

Well here is is 10 years later and guess what?

The guy in the shop said "Ess no bueno". So Pelican is making money on me again.

I have learned of the years, have a local shop rebuild the starter. It is usually done better than some new starter made in Brazil or China.

Same for alternators.
