Vice and Virtues of the 2.4

Here's a pic of the 73.5 911 T (CIS) I'm looking at - seems to be the 2nd CIS Targa one according to it's VIN!

The body is OK, no rust structually. The engine has 19,000 on it so presumably 119,000, maybe more. I'll get a compression/leak down check done, but what are the vices of the 2.4 (and the CIS one in this case)? What particularly to look out for? It runs fine, smoke on start up, none otherwise, or on the over-run.
TIA

Porsche Crest

Saffs,

Like your '75, it has the high-copper content valve guides, so there is a top-end job on the horizon. No worries about pulled studs, though! It would be quite a find if it turns out the odo mileage were true! I would have the PPI focus on exhaust valve guide wear, and see if there is any detectable 'wobble' at the valve tips. Smoking on start-up is perfectly normal, and it probanly did that since it was NEW!

It appears to have 7" rear Fuchs, and later black-center ones, so it may have come with steel wheels ... the spare is probably still what it came with originally.

Have the gear oil level and 'freshness' checked. The 915 could need attention sooner than the engine, if the gear oil isn't fresh.

It certainly is RED! I guess that would be '022' Bahia Red, or '025' Aubergine. Definitely an attention getter!

I think Aubergine is French for "eggplant"

Thanks Warren. The dusky photo hides that it's Tangerine (018). Yeah, later fuchs indeed, "7. Milage definately isn't 19,000 judging by seat wear - although they aren't split.
Thanks again.

looks good!

Saffs, I know I discouraged you on another post, but the car looks pretty good! I like the black fuchs, (are they 16's?), nice subtle upgrade on these cars. FWIW, aubergine was a great color, but much darker. It is french for eggplant, and about the same color. Thank god they didn't use the Italian word!

Saffs,

Looks great to me! Maybe I'm biased though, 'cos it looks very similar to mine from your picture.

One Porsche is just not enough eh!

Let us know how you get on.
