Testing Vacuum advance/retard
How do I test the vacuum advance on my '79 SC distributor? I should be able to apply a certain amount of vacuum and see a certain amount of advance, but I don't know how much, or at what RPM to do this test.
If I apply a vacuum to a distributor while the car is not running, should I be able to get the rotor to move a little? One last thing, can I disassemble the vacuum advance part of the distributor with out taking the whole thing apart?

So in digging through the newly restored archives I found this post by Brian Haggard.
---------- There is a separate curve for the vacuum advance. But the vacuum advance is DETACHED for the test, so its curve does not apply. If you are curious, the two lines are (given in degrees advance AT THE DISTRIBUTOR against TORR of vacuum): 0.5@0-80 torr, 3.4@>=140 torr -0.5@0-120 torr, 1.4@>=160 torr --------- This is max and min vacuum advance. I should be able to see this with a timing light, but I can't see my timing even budge with any amount of vacuum. I think the vacuum advance on my car is just plain stuck from years of neglect.
