Tach stopped working
Tach stopped working on the drive to work today. It is stuck at 1,000. I am hoping this is a cable issue. What should I check? Any common problems?
Thanks |
No cable there! Tach is electronic. Check tach takeoff on side of distributor- may have come adrift. Should be the purple and black wire, assuming your set up is the same as mine.
Other than that, could be tach itself. Give it a tap with your finger? |
Tim,
Take the 6-pin connector loose and then remove your CDI unit. Clean the six Faston (spade) connectors with wire brush or ink eraser. Apply silicone grease to all six lugs/spade connectors on both sides. Reinstall and hope that problem is gone! If problem still there, pull out tach. carefully, and monitor terminal 'TD' with AC Voltmeter, oscilloscope, or pulses function of multimeter or frequency counter while engine is running. If pulse activity present, clean that terminal and connector. Otherwise, the tach. needs servicing. |
Connector rattled off. Need to tighten it an all will be well.
Thanks! |
