Need guidance with fuel filter
Have a 1978 stock 3.0L SC ; the last filter was in Japan (before car's importation to Oz).
This Bosch filter is the one ending in "016" ; see http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...BASflt_pg2.htm - this appears to be spec for the earlier 911. Is there a difference between this filter and the 1978+ 911s? Maybe that's all they had lying around at the time. I'd rather get the correct one now. cheers , Paul

SC's '78-'83 had various types of filters and sizes but also types of fittings (Nipples)
They all work but I prefer the bigger one and adapted the fittings on it so I could use it. It's confusing because people will order one for their year and then find it doesn't fit the existing line-fittings. Fuel Filter, (Mahle) 911 (1981-83) Brand: Mahle Filter [Photo] [Photo] 928-110-147-05-M67 $25.75 Big filter with male/top and female/bottom (For my engine 3.0) Fuel Filter (Bosch 0 450 905 003), 911 (1974-76) Brand: Bosch [Photo] [Photo] 911-110-176-00-M14 $12.75 Small filter with male/top and male/bottom Like I mentioned, I prefer the big filter simply for longevity and better capacity. If you post a picture of your filter and lines, I could see if the bigger type would fit your set-up.

Fuel filter selection and installation..........
Quote:
The original fuel lines to the fuel filter (SC's) are 14 mm x 1.5 and have been superseeded and the new fuel lines are 16 mm x 1.5. Assuming you still have the original fuel lines (14 mm x 1.5) connected to a -016 fuel filter, the outer adapters size would be all 14 mm. Here are what I have noted: Fuel filter................inlet...............outlet 0-450-905-003.........14 mm.............14 mm 0-450-905-021.........14 mm.............12 mm 0-450-905-079.........14 mm.............12 mm 0-450-905-016..........??....................?? Mahle KL-22..............14 mm.............14 mm For example: A filter with 14/14 mm (in/out) would need 14/14 mm adapters to connect to a 14 mm fuel lines. However a 14/12 (in/out) fuel filter would have a different requirement. Now, adding one more factor to the equation is when you install the new fuel lines (16 mm fitting) to replace the old ones (14 mm) would require a different set of adapters. Shown below are the 14/14 mm and 16/12 mm adapters. ![]() Using the recommended fuel filter would be my choice. You could use a bigger, cheaper, or other brand filters. It is your choice. What's the size fittings do you have in your -016 fuel filters? Thanks. Tony |

Sigh, yep, that sounds familiar, Tony.
A search will reveal that many a Pelicanite ordered the filter according to their year only to find that it didn't fit. Example: If I would order a filter for 1980 SC, I get one that doesn't fit, BTDT. ![]() The Mahle KL 22 is not supposed to be the right one for my year but fits, and works, just fine. ![]() Porsche made changes for size and fittings during the SC-years and each SC has to go with what the line-connection calls for. If tazzieman posts a picture of his old filter and lines, we'll be able to see what would work for him.

The input line is 7mm OD leading to a 19mm nut , 13mm nipple and 19mm nut before the filter. The output side is a 19mm nut into a 10mm nipple , 17mm outer nut and then into the 7mm line. I don't have the inner diameter of the line at this stage.
Many thanks guys! Plus , my initial 3 shipments of bits from our host have been received very promptly indeed. First class service! OK now , thanks to the miracle of digital photography ...

Looks like this one would fit:
911-110-176-00-M14 Fuel Filter, 911 (1975-76) [More Info] [view in catalog] Brand: Bosch $11.75 It's the same size and has male nipples at both ends like your existing one. Use 2 wrenches to remove/install the filters; one wrench on the cap-nut and one on the nipple to counter-hold. Gasoline will run out and a big rag underneath is recommended as well as a fire extinguisher nearby. After installation, start the engine and check for leaks. Mark the date and mileage on the new filter. Remove the nipples from the old filter and keep them.
