Chemical stripper and a razor blade will keep your panels galvanized. If you have a 77 or later. What year car? If the car still has factory paint and it is just dull and chipped, it is best to just scuff it up and paint over the base coat, unless your doing a color change.

Wink

If you are just doing the outer panels then use chemical stripper, if you want a bare tub, then blasting is the only realistic way to go.

I used chemical stripper to do the whole of the outside of my SC (galvanised). It probably took 4 whole weekends and 15L of stripper.

It wasn't difficult. With the radio on, it was actually quite therapeutic!

I found the following technique worked for me:
1, rough up paint (rough grade sandpaper)
2, Brush on stripper
3, leave for 10 mins or so to bubble up (depended a lot on temperature)
4, Use 2" scraper to remove paint.
5, repeat as necessary.

I was left with a shiny silver finish - the zinc galvanising.

I then used a mild wire brush on a drill to get any stubborn bits off.

Then wipe with thinners and fill/prime,... Easy!

It does feel VERY weird putting paint stripper on what was a pretty nice looking Porsche,....

Go for it!

x1 Excellent advice.

You can cover the stripper with clear plastic to speed up the process but that can get messy.

Also... This site sells an excellent paint stripper. It's expensive but gets the job done.
