1973 Black Bumperette finish

Hello, I have a 1973 911 that I am restoring. It has the metal bumper overriders which were originally finished in black I believe. Does anybody have details on what the finish was. I am trying to get this as accurate as possible.

Thanks, Joe

Joe, I restored a 73 911. The factory color was 025 or Aubergine. When I got the car, it was painted black. During the resto, I noted that the rear metal bumpers were Black from the Factory, sort of a thick / almost powder coat black. Some of the black coating had chipped off. I researched this with a PCA expert, Ed Mayo and he advised that some early ( MFI ) 73's
came stock with body colored rear bumpers & some black. I have brought the car back to Aubergine with Aubergine rear bumpers. Thinking about refinishing my original black ones someday.

Steve, yes you are right on about the black almost looking like a powder coat or black chrome. This is what I am trying to determine what the correct finish is. Alternatively I may get some chrome repros for the interim.

Yeah, the chromes look good, I kinda like my Aubergine painted ones. Think I may take my originals over to my powder coat friend and see what he says.
