back to brake fluid, is this stuff good?

Hey there everyone.
I went to a few autoparts stores today (Seattle area)hoping to find some high quality brake fluid. What did I find, nada, zip
nothing. No Superblue nothing. What I did find was Castrol GT LMA (it says that it exceeds DOT 3 & DOT 4).
Is this stuff even worth using? If not, does anyone know where I can find decent brake fluid in the Seattle area (for that matter a decent auto parts store). I know, I know, I could buy in from Pelican, but I don't want to place an order for for only 10 bucks.
Thanks as always,
Kyle.

That stuff is certainly better than old, tired brake fluid. Track guys sometimes change BF weekly, so you could think of this BF change as a rinse cycle, and follow up with superduper stuff later. Finally, BF can be just pretty simply by its wet and dry boiling points. And if you don't change BF often, the wet boiling point may be more important. Track conditions can get calipers up to 400 degrees or so, such that brakes fade from the heat. In street driving, you're not likely to reach these temperatures.

These guys are in Redmond, If they don't carry it, they may know who does.

I hear Ford Heavy-duty is pretty good, you should be able to pick that up at any Ford dealer.

I am using Valvoline Syntech at the moment, it was about $5 a quart, from Pep-Boys.

Another good source for HD brake fluid is your local motorcycle shop. My Yamaha dealer carries Motul.

I use the Castrol to flush my system between batches of Super Blue. Using the Motive system, I simply bleed each caliper until it runs clear. Then I follow up with a can of Super Blue.

Mark,

If you want to keep your system "pure", ATE makes a gold fluid. Identical to the blue except in color, you can alternate your changes with blue and gold to know when you have new fluid coming through.

You can always try AutoSport. They are just off Highway 99 on the North end of the city, around 7th or 8th I think (around Denny).

Prices are dear, but they have a couple of nice BMW R50/69s and an XKE that, sadly, never gets outside.

Speedware in Redmond does carry super blue also there is a small auto parts store on Hwy 99 just South of Sea-tac on the West side of the road, they are alot cheaper, it's in the area of angle lake park.

Alright,
thanks Ken. I'll check it out next time I'm down south.
By the way, how are the roads on Bainbridge, I heard the police over there are brutal (I live in Mukilteo).
Kyle.

The Ford stuff is hard to beat. I think it has a wet boiling point around 400 degrees or better! But again, if you're not tracking your car, an annual Castrol flush and refill would be fine.

Kyle,
There's a new Euro/p-car shop on Airport road. I don't remember the name but I drive by it everyday. It's in the complex next to NAPA. I'll find out the name and send you an e-mail. I was in there once to check them out. They sell Redline oil and I think I saw some good brake fluid as well. It's closer than speedware.

Kyle,
The roads here on Bainbridge are not the best Pcar roads since they are mainly straight and not to many curvy roads. Yes the cops are out in force trying to catch any speeder before the next ferry leaves.

I concur with all of the above. Just wanted to add the comment that back in the stone age of PCA, the mid 1970's, Castrol's DOT 4 fluid was considered the hot ticket, the best then available. Grady Clay used it in his shop, and that was good enough for me.

You could always try a Mercedes Benz dealer as they use the stuff too. Failing that I'm sure John Walker would and I know we will sell you some..

Kyle,
Here's the info on the shop.
http://www.teamlacross.com/

I stopped by and talked with them. The don't stock a lot of stuff, brake fluid included, but he can get what you need same day if you give him a call. May be a good future source a little closer than the eastside.
