![]() * HELP * 3 weeks ago my 77 911s 2.7 started making a horible clonking grinding noise. we opened the chain covers and found that 2 of my chain glides u know the black plastick ones have been ground to a pulp. anyway my cousin came back from Diseldorf this weekend and we instaled the chain glides but we dont have d exact data on how to set the camshafts, before we put the chains and sprokets back. any and all suggestions are welcome. note we have the old type of chain tensioners not the hidraulic ones. thanks Simon Sky 77 911 2.7 |

Simon,
Just a quick reply. You should definitly change the chains as well. In order for the rails to be worn, the chains must be worn comparably worn. There are many folks on the board who can detail the complicated cam timing routine. As for rough cam timing, make sure the crank is on Z1(#1 up) and be sure the crank stamps(dots on the ends of each) are facing 12:00. This is a simple approach and will not yield max performance. Mean performance can be accomplished with this simple method. Good luck. Rich |
