How stiff should a NEW CV joint be

well I bought a new one from PelParts...and I noticed it was pretty damn stiff...I thought is was cuz there was no grease, but even after greasing it was pretty stiff...my old one..albeit broken was loosey goosey...if I picked it up by the outer race, the inner race and ball bearing would move around...but the new one took pushing on the inner race to make it move...

I thought it just needed to be broken in...and I installed it...and no problems yet...any suggestions?

Plus I had to REALLY pound on it (with a rubber mallet) to get it to seat properly on the half shaft...the other came off with my hand

what gives...is this normal?

Yes, your observations are entirely normal. CV joint parts go together with what my machinist friends call a "honeymoon fit."
