I have a set of Weber 40IDTP carbs. They have a small amount of play at the end of the shafts. I noticed that most of the Webers need the oversize shafts when there is play. The 40IDTP's use teflon bushings on the shafts. The teflon bushing strips are still available, part # 901 100 997 00 Bearing Shell (Teflon). Anyone know if replacing the teflon helps with a small amount of play , or do these usually need the oversize shafts? Except for the small amount of play, the carbs are in great shape.

Anyone change these out? The teflon strips seem to have eliminated the play in my carbs. Just wondering about someone elses results.

Teflon strips (two per carb body) will deflect in short order leaving you with the same clearance issues you had. Rebushing the carb bodies fixes the issue.
Installing 8.5mm shafts sounds good but the teflon bearings won't fit any more and will therefore bind the throttle shafts. Check out the technical discussion regarding throttle shaft rebushing on this site: Tuning the Weber Carbs

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I think I will have to sell my carb setup due to the economy.
