Trunk clutter
 

Not the most exciting topic, but does anyone have ideas to reduce, or at least, organize, the trunk clutter?
In mine, I have
• a few tools in a bag for emergencies,
• a pair of sunshades (I have one for both front and back, I've never found a good place for them in the cabin)
• California Duster (mock me if you must, you aren't breaking any new ground:) . . .)
• Jumper cables (nestled in the spare, not seen)
• Factory tools
• air pump
• 944 aluminum jack and handle.

Does anyone have a better way to stow the 944 jack and handle than just jamming it between the bulkhead and the spare?

Is anyone doing anything trick to stash the airpump?

I'm just looking for ideas.

Sorry mo, no clue here, but I did want to pass on that I was admiring how neat it was and how you stowed that scissor jack nicely. You might be "there" already.

Hate to admit I pay this much attention to order in the trunk...but I do. I have an aftermarket carpet kit (from Togx) that has a feel similar to the "loop" side of velcro.

I bought a small velcro-together box (a square with two diagonal compartments) at Target. You can keep it as a square, or rearrange it to be two triangles in a row. I use this for odds and ends--rags, a breaker bar, the soft socket, cleaning supplies, etc.

I also bought some velcro strips and use them to secure the air compressor to the carpet.

PO kept the rear seats down and the air compressor in the gap between seat top and seat bottom. Fits nice and snug.

Please let me know how well the 944 scissor jack works for your 911. Should I get one, too? I just posted about alternatives to the factory 911 jack. Where can I get one of the 944 ones? Does it work well for you?

I tested it out and it works great! It has an oval pin that fits very well into the 4 pads on the 911. It's very sturdy, and I never really felt great about the "plug in" jack - it just seems like too many things could go wrong, out in the field. I think a good idea would be go get a chunk of 3/4 plywood to use under the base.

Got it on ebay, paid around 40 bucks for it, probably too much, I read somewhere that people were buying them for about 10 at swap meets. Who knows. I'm happy with what I got and what I paid, Your

there are four jacking points - two behind the front wheels and two in front of the rear wheels. Its a square pad welded to the chassis with a big hole in it. Check the owners manual, it'll show you.

I think the pad with hole only came on the later/g50? cars. My SC doesn't have 'em.

Can't leave well enough alone. (As an example, I spent a lot of this w/e "restoring" the Yakima roof rack on my pickup. It was looking shabby. I need to get a life:rolleyes:)

Why not get rid of the pump by threading your exhaust pipe and developing some sort of adapter that allows you to fill your tires with exhaust gases? (I genus.)

Seriously, though, I had a friend who attached a cargo net (a la SUV) to his strut brace and two hooks at base of the towers. Kept everything from sliding about.

I keep the compressor under the passenger seat, fits fine.Full factory tool pouch will fit in front of the spare if you take the time to roll it a bit flatter instead of round. Lots room around that spare if you utiize it. I keep jumper cable and spare belts inside the spare rim. As for the window shades, velcro afew straps in the area you already have it in your pic. CA duster fits under driver seat.

here's an idea on using the 944 aluminum scissor jack on the pre G-50 cars.
I'm in the process of making an adapter from an old hockey puck that will have a female indent on the bottom as a jack receiver and just the flat top of the puck to lift the proper seams on the chassis.
not an original idea, and I welcome any feedback from someone who has gone down this road already.

I have a 993, but everything is out of sight in it. That factory pump should wedge right down into your spare nicely (I think you need to flip it over). The factory tool kit is pretty comprehensive for emergencies, so I don't have anything additional - it and the the jack fit up in the nose in front of the carpet. I don't have a car duster, though! I have had a nice rag and small bottle of detailer in the carpet pocket.

Trunk clutter
 

I found an old video camera case at a garage sale one weekend that fits pretty good in the trunk.
It's full of stuff, well, the whole trunk is full of stuff. :(
Doesn't shift around though when it's this full.;)

Mine looks exactly that full when I go on a longish road trip. In fact, I have a picture so I can pack it the same way every time. :)

BTW, you really ought to rethink that extinguisher. (just my opinion)

compressor goes in my smuglers box, tool kit down in the jack area along with some spares . and that's it ...

I fully agree with you about the extinguisher.
It used to sit under the front of the driver's seat in my 912.
Won't fit there in the SC so have to come up with a new mounting scheme.
Guess I should do that sooner than later.
