First as a new member to the group, I would like to say how helpful this forum has been to a new Pcar owner in learning about the cars we love. What are your experiences in regard to wait time or time to get (major) work done, in a shop you trust. Here in Louisville Ky. there are only a few games in town, (however the ones that are here are very good) the wait is to say the least, very long.................... Is this the norm. I guess I'm just trying to gauge my patience for my (new to me) 84 Euro Carrera to get out of the shop. (stretched studs and missing first gear). Greg

Having spent plenty of time around auto shops I have one *major* piece of advice:
NEVER TELL A MECHANIC "I'M IN NO RUSH - TAKE YOUR TIME" This is basically a license for the mechanic to partially disassemble your car, roll it into a corner and leave it alone for weeks/months. All at the same time doing other work on customers cars - customers that are not you. The general excuse becomes "I'm waiting for a part XXX". Of course we all know that part XXX can be had overnight to any location on earth - why is it taking 6 weeks to get to your mechanic?
