Problems with CD Unit?
Good afternoon everyone,
My '72 911e has developed a new problem. After complete restoration it sometimes stalls for no reason. I will be driving and it is like someone just turn the ignition key off. The car is then very hard to start and usually takes 20-30 min. before it will fire. However, even if it does start again it will stall shortly after. I had to flat deck the car to my mechanic and he couldn't get the car to stall again and it hasn't happened since. (I've been very hesitent to drive it as not to get stuck somewhere) Can anyone help? I've heard that it may be the CD unit. What is replacement cost of this? Is it a tough job for me to do myself? Thanks fellas, -Pierre |
If the CD box is bad, replacicing it is an easy job. As for a replacement, I'd recommend a Permatune unit. When I was running the 2.7L in my '73, the Permatune made for much easier starts and the plugs were cleaner. I'd recommend a search of the previous posts to see if there are any suggestions. Also, a quick inspection of all the electrical connections (tightness and for any corrosion) and also the chassis ground straps.

I used the Permatune on my 72E with good results, but many on this board think the MKD-6 is a better unit. You might want to look at this thread: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9003&highlight=MSD+Igni tion
