Removing Trailing Arms
I am in the process of removing my trailing arms for a suspension upgrade. I could use some advise on removing the bolt that holds the arm to the body. There is not enough clearance to get a 1/2" drive socket on the bolt. A 3/8" drive socket fits, but the torque I need to apply will probably break it. Any suggestion?

I've had mine in and out several times and I don't recall it being an issue with excessive torque. I used a box wrench to hold the nut still and ratchet with a universal extension on the bolt itself. I don't know if there is a significant difference with the G50 though.

Offset box wrench.

On a G50 car, I've found the secret is to drop the motor and trans. It's quicker and easier to lower the drive train than fight with the negligible access.

I just did complete front and rear suspension bushing, including changing the 4 shocks on my 88 targa everything was straight forward until I got to change the trailing arm's bushings,I tried everything I could to remove those nut's and bolt's (,wrenches, offsets, swivels, long tube extensions) ,nothing worked so finally after couple of day's of struggle I got my mighty sawzal and carefully cut the bolt's.Ordered the new bolt's and nut's from the Porsche dealer,it cost me I think only $12 .I hope this works for you,and good luck.

Cutting the bolts sounds really attractive at this point. I'll try again this weekend.

If you are going to cut, might as well order now as they take a bit of time to arrive.

Mine took 2 days to get .ordered them from downtown LA Porsche, and they had to ship them from their warehouse in Ventura,Ca. to their location. It was 10 minutes drive from my work to pick them up.
There were several dealers that they have them in the stock but were too far from me. good luck. |
Yep. Offset box wrench. And on a G50 car there's no way you're getting these off with the trans in the car- out it must come!

I gave up on mine and sold the monoballs I was going to install. I'll do it when the tranny's out for something else.

Rob was right. I had to take out the engine and transmission. It still took a 3/4" breaker bar and a long pipe, but the arms are out, and the ER monoballs installed. Thanks for the help.
