People who have purchased a 996 recently need your help

Well my friend is in the market for a 996...I have tried my best to talk him into sticking with a air-cooled classic, but his rich snooty ass will not give way...

so his question is what has your experiences been at the dealer...are they willing to negotiate? or are prices pretty final?
I am guessing with the new economy, porsches are probably not flying off the lot...

I am pretty sure he will be buying it out right, ie no lease or financing...

any expereinces? or comments?

Thanks

MJ

My comment would be for him to shop around, check out of town dealers, even e-bay. There are a lot of 2001 and 2002 cars on it. The two big in town dealers here, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, are probably the least competitive on earth when it comes to price and service. Example would be $50k over sticker for new turbos when they are barely exceding sticker on e-bay or elsewhere. Oh yeah, try Rusnak in the valley- they are a lot better and have more cars.

Cool

A friend of mine just bought a new 2001 911 Cab.
13k off the list price. This is in Connecticut not sure what the Left coast market would be. Very nice car but to plush and cushy for my taste.....

I visited Ray Catena Porsche this weekend to just look around and find out when I can see the new commercial....anyway, the place was packed.....Jag, Porsche etc... I think they are doing better than they are letting on.....

If he's going to wait a bit, the new Carrera 4S is coming just around the corner. The 2002s have a new sound package, which makes them at least sound like an aircooled motor. And I'll probably get hit for this comment, but, you know, the more I look at the new 996, the more I like it, especially from behind the wheel.....

Personally if I had the money to buy a car in the 70k-80k range (i.e. new 911) I'd go for a nice condition 96-97 993 turbo!

Sunset P/A, Portland (Or is it in Beaverton?) Oregon recently advertised a new 996 Cab...don't hold me to it, but think the ad said $77K or so. Tell your friend to buy it. Get the POC out of this state!
