No brake lights which switch - PICS
OK, stupid question #86, brake lights functioned periodically and then stopped., I am assuming it's the brake light switch. I have an '86 so it's one of two options - 2 pole or 3 pole. Here are some photos can anyone tell - 2?. Also, this seems really hard to get to, can anyone offer some help with the process. No garage and it's winter in MD with a 10 day repair order from a dilligent cop.

First thing to make it more complicated there are 2 switches back there. You need to pull some of the hoses so you can see back there.
It should be a 2 pole switch. There is a cheap VW switch that works and is usually locally available.

Most likely a two pole - but just pull off that nylon connector and you can tell for sure - Mostly the turbos had a three pole connector.
You can remove with the brake booster still in the car - I'd recommend prefilling the switches - there's a few threads that cover it -

I can't get my sausage fingers in there. Not sure if it's relevant but the 2 pole switch has an "H" suffix and the 3 pole a "G" and my VIN ends Z"G"S122605.
I am interested in the division with '86 cars - what was it all about?

Replace those prone to fail pressure switches with a mechanical switch I did it 25 years ago after my third switch replacement in 2 years. just pull 1 switch plug and rig up a wire harness to go down to the pedal assembly plug one wire into each harness plug wire (plastic socket)and let the switch do the rest.
