your initial problem was of course the rotor/cap, the not starting now problem is you have fouled your plugs from all the restarting and pushing on the sensor plate.

Hopefully. I only pressed on the sensor plate for a second or two last night. Didn't touch it today.

And it fired up with the wires 5 and 6 crossed after replacing the rotor and cap this morning.

Anxious to hear the verdict.

Same thing happened to me. I swore I checked and rechecked the pop off valve.

It had developed a small hairline crack in the sealer I used to hold it in place.

Look at the screws holding the air box to the manifold, they may be loose if the box blew.

Thanks. I will certainly ask that the shop perform a close inspection of the entire air box.

I did look at all of the screws. Nothing out of sort and no apparent cracks. The pop off valve has a good bit of epoxy around it. I should have used my tiny mirror to look more closely at this area.

Ha! I knew it!

Not that I'm reveling in your pain, but after 6 years I feel like I finally know something and can diagnose from my desk.

Check to make sure that all the plug wires are installed correctly and are tight. I got back to the fact that the car was running before. Your WUR nor any other FI part (except maybe the airbox) didn't go bad while you were driving it. Keep us posted!

put your battery on a charger overnight and retest tomorrow. Those hairline cracks can be a mother to find sometimes. If you can get her to start, quickly squirt some carb cleaner or ether around your airbox. If the box is cracked there will be the signiture change in idle.

just keep in mind the rotor turns CCW in an sc if you are basing your wires on firing order ...

Just talked to the shop.

Fortunately they didn't have to do anything. After sitting overnight the car fired right up and idled perfectly for them. Said it is running extremely well.

Go figure.

I asked them to pull some plugs just to check for fouling. And to put on a new cap and rotor so that I still have a set of backups.

They suggest that the cap came loose first, then destroyed the rotor. This is based on the cap holding clips being loose.

Great news! Now go out and drive it and release some of that anxiety that built up over the fear that something expensive had done you in :D

Oh ye of little faith ... it's a bulletproof SC! As penance for prematurely performing the last rites on your SC (e.g., "My SC Backfired and Died"), you must forever pledge to vigorously dispel any rumors that the SC is anything other than the outstanding 911 that it is. Drive yourself out of Purgatory, doomsayer!

Ha! Clearly I wasn't suggesting that it was permanently dead. Just temporarily resting. I fully expect it to last at least another 100k miles.
