Tail light lense question

I would like to replace my rear tail light lenses on my 1987 911. The pricing between the Bosch and non bosch lenses is significant. Is there really a difference between them? I am leaning towards Bosch just so that psychologically I am at peace with having OEM parts on my baby, but the price is so significant that i am questioning it.

Appreciate they input folks!

Does your car have yellow or red indicator lenses?

If it has yellow lenses: If you use the non Bosch option you should change both lenses because the
yellow in the reproduction lenses is different to the Bosch OEM ones. (info from Wayne)

That alone may make you stay with the Bosch lenses.

I can't comment on the US spec red lenses... They may or may not be a good match.

If it was me... I would stay with the Bosch OEM option until they become NLA.

The euro lenses are much nicer than the red ones. I have the Bosch on my 930 and the repros from Pelican on my Weissach. There is a difference in color as the Bosch is more amber colored. The repros are a lighter shade, more towards yellow. The repros are well made and definitely a good deal if you want the Euro look without paying $300 for a set of Bosch lenses.

I bought reproduction lenses and as with everything else that 's cheaper I regretted it. The reproduction lens is a dull red and the reflector is hard to see. The bosh lens is sharp and very reflective and bright crystal red. Just my 2cents.

I've just bought a brand new pair or lenses directly from a large Porsche main dealer here in the UK on Friday. One came in a rectangular box sealed with brown paper packing tape the other came in the same style box but sealed with clear cellotape.

NEITHER have Bosch marked on the lense itself and both say made in the Czech republic on the cardboard box!

Only one had a Porsche sticker on the outer cardboard box.

They are also considerably lighter than the old lenses.

Can some one explain what is going on here please?

I'd say what you have are OEM/Porsche lenses meaning, Porsche had contracted with a new manufacturer for official Porsche lenses and that is no longer Bosch (in this case, though Bosch may still make them.) They are not repros nor aftermarket but true Original Equipment Manufacture parts, meeting the specs of Porsche and sold through Porsche. It is not uncommon for a factory to have several suppliers for a particular part (look what's happening now with Toyota gas pedals) all of which are OEM. The difference in weight would be the result of the new suppliers production methods which should meet with Porsche quality standards--again, not an unusual finding between new parts vs originals. Even if they were Bosch, they still might be different than the old lenses as the outsourcing wave sweeps through all industries.

Just ask about authentic Bosch coils and where they are made!

Same with the dist. cap OEM Bosch made in Spain not W.Germany,
Most likely best to replace lenses in pairs
