Bonanza Big Day - need help from seat experts
I picked up a 72 parts car yesterday. Can't believe my luck. I only really wanted the 72 oil tank and plumbing for my 68 912 come 911r project. I got way more than I bargained for. The 72 had been updated with flares and impact bumpers at some point and the tub is pretty ripe but ... the car has S gauges, aluminum calipers, I am pretty sure Early Sport Recaros ( I think, need expert opinion here ) with a bad upolstery job, and the best part, drumroll.... a 100L competition tank. A very, very good weekend.
See pic's and let me know if I have Sport Recaros. Thanks, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice, well, I guess it's time to start building around what those seats and tank were really meant for!

Bonanza
Hi Canamfan,
I have a project underway, a 68 912 that will be a 911r repro. I have a 2.4 MFI engine and some other good stuff but this gas tank and 72 oil system will sweeten the project. I think these gas tanks a worth ludicrous $$$ and it's probably sacrilidge to stick it in what was once a 912. one of these days I will post a thread on the project, it just seems to early in the game. Thanks

Wow... very nice score!!
I've had several of the tanks....sold the last one for $5K. Own and have owned many many sets of factory sport seats, and that's what you've got. Wonder if that was a special car to start with??? Cheers, Eric

what kind of engine and transmission? Seems like someone dropped some money in that car - can't imagine they didn't touch the engine with those other upgrades.

update
I don't think the car itself is that special. It was brought back from Germwny by a guy in the Canadian Forces years ago with a plan to fix it up someday. It appears to have a 2.2 with Zeniths, the case # is if I recall right is 91103. I'll have to get the serial # off the engine later. The car, again from memory, carries S/N 9112500525. I will verify these numbers next time I get to my shop. I work an hours commute from home and my shop is 7 miles from my house. Anyway the car has impact bumpers, rear is fiberglass. It has an early 75ish Turbo tail and flares that look like SC flares to me. The body is rusty, but the doors and rear quarters appear to be galvanized. It's a cobbled up mystery.
I think it's a Euro 911T but I'd hate to find out I was chopping up an S. Any Thoughts? Thanks, Greg

The only thought that I have is to look it over very carefully before you decide what to do with it. You just never know with these cars. I doubt that there is anything special about it but you have to wonder why the big gas tank was fitted... Maybe it had some race history in its past.
Just look very carefully for things that are out of place, or evidence of prior race prep. JR |

Those seats as well as the tank are actually cheap repros made in the eighties. They're actually not too safe by today's standards. I have a friend that actually collects these. He said he'll give you a hundred bucks for both if you want p m me and I'll give you details............. Mmm.. Mmmhuh ..... Mmm huht... Hahahahah! J/ K - not sure about the seats. But I am sure your a lucky bas****!
I would research the VIN and history of the '72. You can call Porsche and ask question to the dept that give the COA. The last time I read a story on earlysreg about a guy with a similar find turned out he had a factory TR iirc. Maybe you're luckier than you think! |

Greg,
I remember that 72 from the late eighties. Was for sale at Wilson's shop on Stairs Street in Halifax for some time. Believe that it also has/had a smaller diameter RS-type steering wheel. Car was quite "ripe" at the time, but it's still a 72.... Where was it hiding ? |

Hi James
Car was in a snowbank in Greenwood. It does have an early style leather wrapped wheel. Not sure about the diameter.
