trouble in the 'stributer
I need some help. The 72 has the Bosch distributer, which is getting a solid spark from the coil. But the car wouldn't start. Changed points, nothing. Changed rotor, nothing. Threw on a used cap, and it fired off and ran like a bat of out hell. Came back six days later for a drive, won't start. Wires all seem fine, could the distributer itself be the problem? Any advice appreciated...Matt.

You didn't get any water in there maybe, like from some rain perhaps? (dry out the cap)
How do the ignition wires look up close? - If they're old, they could be cracked and arcing ( I know you said they seem fine - just a thought though). I was thinking something else, but since it worked with another cap, you might be on the right path. hope this helps |
Had similar issues when the clip on the end of the coil lead, where it fits into the distributor, had corroded and had become loose, causing intermittent swings between no start and bat outta hell. Wires looked fine, and weren't arcing noticeably. It took some tugging and closer inspection to find the fault. Good luck.

Thanks, I'm on it.
