Fresh air blower/fan switch E9 replacement or bybass

I have a defective fresh air blower/fan switch

I can reach up under the dash and Finger squeeze the level swing-contact to the contact pads and all the speeds energize the blower.

One way or another I need to remove the switch to repair. it's riveted to the ventilation lever control assembly.

The control assembly , I do not want to remove. I would have to remove all the cables and rerigg the system.
I have access to drill one rivet on the switch. The other rivet is tight above the ashtray. No drilling access. I may be able to grind the rivet head with a die- grinder or die grinder.
I can also may drill the spot, welds holding the ashtray bracket and remove it. This will allow good access form Removing and soldering the switch.
I will then will use threaded fasteners to reassemble the ashtray and switch.

The rub is I can easily return functionality by sistering a appropriate remote three way switch.
I would hate to disassemble, only to discover the switch is not economical to replace too worn out to refurbish.

Removing the ventilation controls assembly is far easier than some of your other ideas, like removing the bracket for the ashtray. Re-installing the cables is not hard.

I agree, don't try working on it installed. If you undo the mounting screw to the firewall, there is usually enough slack in the lines to pull it out a bit to see the switch. The fix is usually just cleaning the contacts and then bending the arm so that it touches with more force.
