"Charlie" Sway bar Question / Help
Hey Gang,
I purchased my 1987 911 3.2 with what I am told are "Charlie" sway bars. From what I have read, these are really good sway bars and are no longer made? Can someone confirm that? Secondly, there is a lot of squeaking noise emminating from what I believe is the sway bar. I took the wheels off and took a look around. The bar itself spins and I cant tell if there is some sort of bearing or a bushing etc. I can't take the plate cover off of the bar without dropping the gas tank so I could not go in for a look. I tried greasing it but not sure how much grease I was able to get in given that I could not take the plate off. Is anyone familiar with these sawy bars? The same noise is emminating from the rear of the car so I suspect its the same problem. If there are bushings I need to replace, can anyone tell what parts to buy and where? etc. Thanks so much for the help gang! |
Gerry,
Charlie bars were made by Wrightwood Racing and yes, they are long discontinued. Excellent products!!!!!! Sounds like the bushings may be worn out (or dry) and require either replacement and/or relubrication. You will need to remove the bushings to inspect them as well as lube 'em with a good synthetic grease. I don't have any spares here but I'd look at McMaster-Carr. |
Anybody have a front bar "wrightwood" old style sitting around?

I have them on my car front and rear and am thinking of replacing them, No issue, just going to blade type
