Is this a MFI airbox drain assm ?
I had this part left over from some MFI stuff. It bolted to the front side of the motoron drivers side I believe . I cant remember if it is for the air filter housing or what. Just wanted to know the correct part description.
Thank You in advance. Eddie http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1265385164.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1265385211.jpg |
Yes it connects to the bottom of the air filter housing.

Whats the thng on the end? Mine does not have that, it just sprays oil all over the starter and undersite of the engine. Is it a screen mesh or bag?

It is a rubber nipple. Sort of a one-way device - liquid can get drained out but air is not pulled in.

Do I need That?

Chris, my '72 is the only car I've ever seen that even had the assembly attached - I'm thinking you're just fine w/out it. Most of the airboxes out there are just dribbling on the engine shroud.

That was fit to the early cars with carbs and CIS thriugh 77. The CIS had the oil tank vent into the side of the airbox. If the fumes cool and become oil it sits below the airflow sensor and drains onto the shroud unless the hose is attached and run through the right front sheetmetal connecting to the screw on the outside of the oil cooler, grey cover, etc.
On carbs and MFI there is a drain on the bottom front of the air cleaner unit. Bruce |
Learn something new everyday. Thanks Bruce.

If you are spewing oil out of it you are overfilling the oil in your tank. I bought my first 67 S because the guy didn't want to spend the money on replacing the rear seal. Turned out to be that little bugger.
