Hoosier vs. BF Goodrich G-Force R1
Looking at both for 17" wheels
BF Goodrich are less expensive and they have a $60 mail-in available to boot. Pro's/Con's of each from guys that have used or are using them currently? Price is a consideration and has me leaning to BFG's. I've been reading different searches, but not really finding a head to head comparison.

Are you racing? What tire have you been running?
I think you will find the BFG's last longer. I tried both at the same time and found it difficult to be confident with either. They were just different enough to mess with me. I decided to just stick with one brand for the rest of the year. I went with the Hoosier's because they offer tires for winning a race with NASA. I never got any free tires though.

Running MPSC's but they no longer make 17" tires. They are pricey but last. Looking towards racing and have found most guys are running hoho's, but have heard good things about BFG's.

Ran both on a BMW M Roadster with 18" wheels.
The R-1 last quite a bit longer and seems to be just as sticky (in HPDE anyway). The only difference between the two is that it take a bit longer to heat up the R-1s. If you've run MSPCs I would equate the time to heat up the R-1s with what I've heard from others about how the MSPCs heat up. The R-1s seemed a bit more forgiving and gave more input at threshold than the Hossiers. Prepping a 911 track car for this season and I'm putting R-1s on it. |

Check out Discountiresdirect.com, free shipping, $60 mail in to BFG, expires 2/14. Better price than tirerack. Going to order mine tomorrow, thanks for the input!

I know that R1's are actually a bit wider than Hoosiers in the same sizes, can cause issues if your at the limit of what will fit with out rubbing. Me, i'll stick with R6's. Once you are up at over $1000 per set a few bucks here and there isn't worth messing with a proven winner (in racing, in DE who cares).

Actually they are $200 less, which as you said for DE purposes, I'll use the $200 towards a track day. Didn't know the tires run wide. MPSC's do as well. Thinking of going to up from 245 to 255 but may need to reconsider.

I think you'll be happy with the BFG's.

I run 275's in the rear on 9" rims (245's in front on 8") so I would think 255's wouldn't be an issue, especially if you run a couple degrees of camber. Just be sure your oil lines are clear.

The R1's are great but if you are doing track time when you get them real hot they start to get greasy and lose grip. Kinda comes on pretty sudden in my experience. That being said I would buy them again.
