chainbox needed....
Hello all.
In my 2.7 cleaning and reseal project, I found the left side chainwheel pin loose in its bore. Both the chainbox and cover are egg-shaped (the bore where the pin rides). Any advise? Can this be fixed or have to be replaced? If it is to be replaced, does anyone have a source for a good used one? 1974 2.7 Thanks again... Chris |
Try Parts Heaven in Hayward: info@partsheaven.com or 800-767-7250. Also, Ted Robinson in Sunnyvale 800/762-1911 may have one he can sell you.:) Jim

Also, they are not readily fixed by any economic means. When they are in the condition you describe they are replaced. :D Jim

I have a few laying around and you're welcome to one, however....
When faced with using these old pieces on my 2.7, I bit the bullet and bought new 3.0L aluminum ones....from a dealer....augh. 25% off sale, but still not cheep. With the old stlye idler pivot, the shaft wears excentric, causing a ridge. I can see why these are blamed for tensioner failure. The wider, bushed idler and new shafts (on the covers) seemed like good insurance to me. The total bill for my rebuild was around $4500 . All the new widgets at the back end were about $450 of that. Labor was free, but damn he was slow. |
