1988 911 Brake Rebuild Question

Hi All,

I am hoping to start and finish the brake calipers as soon as the snow lightens up in the NY area. I want to know if it is easier to jack up one wheel at a time, or just put the car up on jack stands and redo the wheel cylinders, then change the rubber lines one at a time, then bleed the system?

Thanks
Jack

I did this very task in september. Jack the entire car up and put in on supports. DO NOT forget to partially depress the brake pedal and keep it there with a stick or something while taking the lines apart. Otherwise the fluid will drip out and air will get in there. Ask me how I know. Might as well get caliper rebuild kits too if your dust shields are shot. Rebuilding the calipers is super easy and they will likely work better once all the gunk is removed and new seals put in place. Get a pressure bleeder too. Makes the task even easier. Get teh right wrenches too, forget what they are called, but they are more than combination wrenches.
good luck

Jack - you may find some of the replies to my post about my brake issue in this thread helpful, I know I was stoked to learn about the homemade pressure bleeder.

Gimme a BRAKE!

Regards.

I would recommend pressure or vacuum bleeding. Excessive travel of the brake pedal can ruin your master cylinder seals.

Just bought the issue on your tip. Thanks very much.
Looks like a perfect article on a 911 brake caliper rebuild.
