Injectors serviced - lesson learned
For anyone thinking about it, I decided to send my injectors out for cleaning and figured I spend a little more for the extra tests. I also figured I go local just in case, but I may have sacrificed some service.
On the good side, I got the service turned around in about 2 weeks - they were cleaned and tested with a report furnished to me. The o-rings and screen were replaced, and I found out I had no issues performance-wise. All original parts were returned. On the other hand, I'd mailed them insured which proved to be a problem because this required the recipient to sign for them - which required a visit to the Post office counter (down the hall from his PO Box). I thought this would be easy, but I had to wait almost a week for them to be picked up - I had to ask a couple of times.:rolleyes: I neglected to compare all services between shops - learned painting isn't part of the service. And - I didn't get new pintles - the excuse here was that they had problems with the "new ones falling off". I requested new ones to be mailed (still waiting). Anybody ever hear of pintles falling off? Can I securely replace'em myself? I had mine done two years ago. I took them down to a local shop in the morning, picked them up in the afternoon. New filter basket, pintle, spacer, O-ring. $25.98 plus taxes each. No mention of the pintle falling off. I wouldn't know anything about putting the pintle needles on yourself, but someone else here might chime in.

So the big party is starting tonight. Good luck with that. I have friends strongly suggesting that I make a little trip out for a bit to experience the event. I just might drive down for a couple days. One doesn't often get an opportunity like that. |

Found another thread here regarding leaving the original pintles on, hopefully it was sound advice so I'll leave them alone considering the 'issue' and my lack of skill in this area - something about the kit containing the incorrect part. |
Witchhunter.com is great for mail in service. Do them right before you need them. Cleaned injectors don't like to sit on your shelf.

I had my injectors serviced, they were sent out by a shop that does a lot of speed/track work. He had the flows on the injectors and marked the cylinders that I was to install them in. Steve said that some cylinders will run hotter or colder than others so he matched the injectors to the cylinders as best he could. It wasn't rocket science, but every little bit helps...

I got my injectors cleaned whilst doing a rebuild, took three different shops to do it properly.
The first one sent them back with a pintle cap missing (and did not replace the filters, seals or caps). The second sent a report but did not change the seals or pintle caps. The third guy actually cleaned and tested them properly and replaced the filters, seals and caps (as all of them had been requested and agreed to do). Mr Injector in the UK is the only person to use. Stay away from Fuel Injection Centre in Cheshire. |

I'm not sure what the criteria was, other than my guy had the injectors marked for which cylinders they went back in. I believe he said that traditionally some of the cylinders will run hotter than others so you would install the "wettest" (?) injector in that hole. Maybe somebody can jump in here and be more articulate on the subject than what I'm saying. |
That makes sense on paper. If an injector flows more fuel, it could keep a hotter cylinder cooler than a leaner injector.
