Bonnet/Hood pins

Hi,

I love the look of the bonnet/hood pins...you can pick them up from ebay for a reasonable price. But since I do not need them I started to wonder it anyone else has installed them for the looks rather than the functionality. In fact it would create more issues in opening the bonnet.

Anyone have any experiences to share...GOOD or BAD...?

Mark..

It's all up to you. There are a lot of folks here whose cars are disco & all show/no go (myself included).

GOOD: If you can install them so they can be removed without repair/repaint, all the better.

BAD: PCA dweebs will do this when they discover the mod -> (and the weigh-reduction Nazi's will think you're insane for adding an unnecessary 1.3oz to your car)

They really only look good with a hood scoop, so be sure to put that on too!

Photo from the early 70's....apologies for the grainy look due to the fast B&W film of the day.

Exactly they can look good, maybe not with the air scoop, but definatley with flames painted down the sides.

Installing them is a one way street,. after drilling holes in the bonnet you are stuck with them.

Reaper - not too sure what period we are looking at?

I think they look great on the cars that are supposed to have them, like the 911R, Reaper's ride...
It just does not look wrong on those cars.
IKt looks better on a longhood than on an impact bumpy.
To install them on a fairly stock looking SC or Carrera would look silly IMO.

As I was backdating mine - I needed them so that the early bonnet will shut. (now I wouldn't think twice about welding in the earlier style front panel,..).

From a functionality point of view, they are worse than the standard fitment as anyone can open the bonnet.

From a looks point of view, I like them - they're not everyones taste though.

All that being said, its my car, my money, and I'm having them.

I once had the hood fly back after the factory latch failed. Had to straighten up the rear corners of the hood that got bent as a result. So I added these, I don't think they look to cheesy as some have suggested.

Maybe you can find some 'fake' stick-ons so you don't have to drill the hood...
