Thanks. Joe |

I've got a book at home on Porsche restoration and repair. I believe it has a section on glass removal. I'll try to find it and see if it gives any instructions on the rear glass.

I posted a lengthy post on removing and reinstalling the rear quarters. It should still be here. Was in the last year.

detatch the vertical rubber where it wraps around the B piliar, and with the ball of you palm, push out the lower front edge. the rest will follow. some hard bonking with your palm may be needed, if it's reluctant. it's tempered glass so it's pretty tough stuff. the string method installs it. obviously, this is for the non-opening style.

Thanks for the info guys! Found your post Jim T, although it was for install not removal, I guess I will get to use that info later. One more question though, do I leave metal trim in place while I pop window out and then remove trim when window is out?
Thanks again! |

I found the section in my restoration book, but it was for the earlier windows that open. I don't think it will help.

like the front and rear glass, the trim is installed into the rubber, then the whole works is installed on the car.

removal is very easy.
You basically have to just pry the rubber up and over the ridge that holds it in place. The best way it to use a large, flat bladed object (something like hard wood would be best, but you can use a big screwdriver if you are careful). Get inside the car. See on the bottom part of the window, where the rubber seal contact the interior? That's what you need to pry up. Gently try it, while pushing out on the window. You'll see that it starts to come out. Once you get about 1/2 way around the window, you'll be able to just push it out. You do this while the metal trim is still in the window. The metal trim should never be removed or installed once the window is in place. If you try to remove it you will bend it, if you try to install it you will find it is IMPOSSIBLE to do. |

Jim T, thanks. I did just what you and John Walker said and "bravo" out they came. One thing I did do different was remove the metal carefuly first. I know you guys say no, but it started to come out as I was pushing. No bends, guess I was lucky! When I removed the interior trim pieces along the windows I found on each side about 10" lengths (of what I think is the gummy stuff used for sealant) wrapped in plastic for reinstall. Is this correct and can I purchase more from Pelican.
Thanks, Joe |

As long as you didn't damage the metal trim, you are ok, but taking it out first didn't do anything to help get the windows out, and once they are out the trim just comes right out. No biggie.
I'm not sure what that sealant that you found is. My car, and others that I have seen, didn't have any sealant on those windows (or the rear window). The rubber seal is just installed dry. |
